The Ant and the Grasshopper
A Sunny Day of Work and Fun
On a bright, sunny morning, Ant was as busy as ever.
Back and forth she marched, carrying tiny crumbs, seeds, and grains to her little home.
The Grasshopper stretched under a shady leaf with a big smile.
"Ant!" he called. "Why are you working so hard? Come dance with me! The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and the flowers are blooming!"
Ant smiled but kept walking.
"I'd love to," she said. "But winter will come before we know it. I'm collecting food now so I'll have enough later."

The Grasshopper laughed so hard he nearly rolled off his leaf.
"Winter? That's ages away! Future Grasshopper can worry about future problems. Present Grasshopper is very busy... doing absolutely nothing!"
He struck a funny pose and began playing cheerful tunes on a blade of grass.
The butterflies clapped.
The ladybugs danced.
Even a sleepy snail bobbed his head to the music.
Every day, Ant worked a little.
Every day, Grasshopper played a lot.
Whenever Ant carried another crumb, Grasshopper had a new excuse.
"My legs are too tired."
"My tummy is too full."
"I'll start tomorrow."
But tomorrow always became the next tomorrow.
Winter Arrives
Soon, the leaves turned orange, then brown.
The air became chilly.
One frosty morning, snowflakes began to fall.

Grasshopper opened his door and gasped.
"Brrr! Where did all the food go?"
He searched everywhere.
There were no berries.
No fresh leaves.
No seeds.
His stomach made such a loud rumble that a nearby squirrel looked around, wondering if thunder had arrived early.
Cold and hungry, Grasshopper knocked on Ant's door.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
Ant opened it with a warm smile.
"Hello, Grasshopper! Come inside."
The little house was cozy, and shelves were neatly stacked with food.
Grasshopper looked embarrassed.
"I'm sorry," he said quietly. "I spent all my time playing and never prepared for winter."
Ant handed him a warm bowl of soup.
"It's good to enjoy life," she said kindly, "but it's also important to be ready for tomorrow."
Grasshopper nodded.
"I understand now. Next season, I'll work first... and then I'll dance."
Ant laughed.
"That sounds like a wonderful plan."

A Better Balance
When spring arrived, something surprising happened.
Every morning, Grasshopper gathered food with Ant.
Every afternoon, they took a well-earned break.
They danced with the butterflies, sang with the birds, and even convinced the snail to join their tiny parade, although he reached the finish line the next day!
From then on, Grasshopper learned that planning ahead didn't mean giving up fun.
It simply meant making time for both work and play!
